CARRIE ANTLFINGER, More veterinarians making house calls Associated Press Published: Friday, November 10, 2006 in the Montreal Gazette The Veterinary Information Network (VIN) has a bulletin board for housecall practitioners. It is under the VIN Information Section of the main message boards. There are several levels of service on VIN. For more information call VIN directly 1-800-700-4636 or fax to 916-756-6035. Their address is VIN, 1411 W. Covell Blvd., Ste 106-131, Davis, CA 95616. Consider contacting a business consultant who specializes in veterinary practices for an opinion about the profitability of housecall service or consider the mobile practice using the information, advice, and checklists provided in veterinary practice management books. I offer this suggestion because I have had veterinarians tell me they and their clients like the flexibility of housecall practice and that they can make as much as they choose. I have also had a business consultant question the profitability of such a practice. Business consultants advertise in veterinary trade magazines like Veterinary Economics. In February 2001, the current president of the AAHV (the American Association of Housecall and Mobile Veterinarians) wrote to me with their new website address, listed earlier in this guide. Dr. Jonathan Leshanski, DVM. mentioned that he also "does business consults for mobile practices" (his electronic mail address is(drjonathan@hotmail.com). Dr. Shannon Stanek is the secretary of the American Veterinary Medical Association of Housecall Veterinarians. Contact her at stanekvet@comcast.net or 1694 Swamp Pike Gilbertsville, PA 19525. ------------------------------------------ This guide used by permission: Housecall or Mobile Veterinary Practices for Small Animals by Ann Viera, May 1996. |
