Whether performing an annual wellness physical, or a sick patient consultation, a thorough physical exam is performed on each patient from both a Western and Eastern Medical point of view. All organ systems are physically evaluated, giving your Veterinarian the best possible overview of your pets' general health. The information gained during the physical exam will be discussed with you, and a diagnostic and treatment plan will be formulated. Our goal is to prevent disease, as well as treat it.
Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. Most people are familiar with its use for relieving arthritis, or other musculoskeletal pain, but acupuncture can do much more! Since acupuncture helps to balance the body and ensure smooth energy or "chi" flow, it is very useful in treating such diverse conditions as dermatology disorders, anemia, internal organ dysfunction and cancer. Most pets tolerate acupuncture surprisingly well, often falling asleep during the procedure.
Herbal Medicine is a very important part of holistic treatment. Herbs work together with acupuncture and diet changes to rebalance the system. Dr. Lee often uses Chinese Herbal Formulas, or combinations of herbs to address underlying root causes of disease. Most of these formulas have withstood the test of hundreds or even thousands of years. Through the years they have been modified as needed for best efficacy and safety. These are available by prescription only. When appropriate, Dr. Lee also uses Western Herbs, either singly, or in combination with other herbs or formulas.
Aritstotle once said "Let food be thy medicine." What fabulous advice. Each patient will receive individual diet recommendations to optimize health. The goal of holistic treatment is to get the patient to the point where they no longer (or rarely) need acupuncture and herbal treatments, and can be maintained by proper diet alone.
During the housecall, people are usually surprised by how many diagnostic samples we can obtain in the comfort of your pets' normal environment. Examples of specimens routinely collected include: blood and urine samples; aspirates of tumours (inserting a small needle and withdrawing cells to be analyzed microscopically); dermatology specimens to check for infection, mites, or other abnormalities on the skin and/or ears; culture samples to identify causes of infection; and routine testing such as heartworm and lyme tests. Dr. Lee does some routine testing in house, but most lab samples are sent to a nationally recognized reference laboratory. Results are usually available within 1-3 days.

For more involved diagnostics such as xray or ultrasound, Dr. Lee works through local hospitals, or refers to local specialists.
Dr. Lee perform routine surgeries and anesthetic procedures such as spay, neuter, mass removals and dentistry at local hospitals. Referral to surgical specialists are also available.
All routine vaccinations are available, and given only when needed. When possible we consider testing antibody levels in the blood (running a titer) prior to vaccination to make sure the vaccination is actually needed.
